WOW! Ya’lls responses to my last post really reminded me that our readers are a glorious group of bonitas.
I loved hearing your thoughts on kitty friend. She is a glorious kee kee and we love her so much. I have some bushes in the front yard that I’d like to prune down a little, but my little muffin pie likes to catch shade under them during the day so I’ve let them look hideously overgrown stay nice and bushy.
Rob and I have some thinking to do about this situation and we’ll definitely keep ya’ll posted – thanks for your input.
On Declawing
For those of you who object to declawing cats, I completely understand where you’re coming from. You’re right, it IS a really horrific procedure. I sense that some readers assumed we didn’t look into alternative practices prior to declawing our two cats, and I can assure you that we did. It was a very difficult decision to make and after three years of frustration, tension, and negativity, we felt that declawing was the best option for us and our family. No amount of training, double-sided tape on the couch, Soft Paws, nail trimming, and behavior modification was working.
Our concern was that we weren’t fostering a loving home because our patience was wearing thin.
Now, we live a harmonious life together and I don’t regret our decision at all.
Our cats are extremely loved, in spite of the fact that they are missing the first digits of their fingers.
If I sound defensive, it’s only because I love my animals so much!
They bring so much joy and love to our lives and we’re so lucky they’re with us.
That was so heavy! I hate dealing with personal, deep feelings on this blog – ugh.
So, let’s move onto food.
I found a picture of one of Rob’s lunches:
I love him. While many of us are obsessing about what we (and others) eat, Rob is throwing together an apple, some (authentic) ramen, and a package of nuts in an ancient tupperware container!
Can you imagine the freedom?
I know I’d be having a freak fest about the sodium in the ramen, the ratio of fats to carbs, the combination of fruit with other foods, and the may-juh lack of veggies.
Not mah mang, not mah mang!
I bought a few items from a healthy raw website and was so excited when they came the other day.
I just love packages!
Wink wink!
Ooh I so clevah!
So, here’s the goods:
I got all kinds of “I just went raw and I’m super into it” necessities: chia seeds, carob powder, a body brush, a spiralizer, a couple of books, blah blah blah.
That spirizzle can do no wrong!
Here it is, helping me make sweet potato curly fries:
Sweet potato and zucchini strands mixed in with salad:
And making “beet pasta” for my love pie:
I just adore this fabulous tool!
I’m really excited. Rob and I are going home on Friday! Dreamy sigh. We’ve been so homesick. We need our family, our friends, THE CITY, noise, pollution, natural beauty, the beach, all of it.
And you know what going home means…reuniting with my cousin and sister in blog, ANDREA! I love her dearly and can’t wait to see her, Chris, and the puppies.
Now that I’m all excited, I can’t think of a smooth transition out of this post.
Perhaps a picture of me on the potty will work.
OH NO SHE DI INT! Oh yes…I did.
You know some perv is gonna find that totally hot!

i down right love you to death.
that spiral-ized sweet potato pile looks INSANELY GOOD!
do you have one pant leg on in that picture? not that i was looking at it too long…but…just an observation!

Please consider adopting a cat that has already been declawed rather than declawing one. I normally just read, don’t post but as an animal lover I am drawn!

OH. MY. HELL.
I have chia seeds gellin’ like felons in the fridge RIGHT NOW. I also put carob powder on my grocery list. Let me know whatchu think!
Too much dirtiness in this post. Pass the Purell.

Amy – and I you.
It’s actually one of those bouncy BR dresses that somehow made it over to one thigh – if I could pull off wearing pants while going pee that would be quite a feat!
Posted by Kersten on July 15, 2009 at 11:06 pm
GAHAHAHAHAAAAA! You’re on the crapper!! Don’t tell me you’re taking an open door dump!?!
Love the packages; they sure were tasty! You makin’ a vegan batch while you’re in town?
Can’t wait to see you!

omg.. . no words can explain how hilarious the ending of this post was.
obscence … desserts … you on the … fun pot .. um. WOW! LOL! I am truly shocked and laughing so hard LOL. including the one of your man with his hands in his pants on the bed sleeping, bc mine does that too.
As far as the lovely kitties… I don’t have declawed kitties but I respect your decision! It makes tons of sense and its just like surgery that we all have to have sometimes … ya know.
anyway. your kitties are precious.
i love kitties!

Ahhhhh cover your eyes children…. too much SEXAYNESS going on in ere!!
You’re so naughty, Erin!!
As for the kitty dilemma, I hope that you and Rob will come out with a good solution. I have NO DOUBT in my mind that you guys ADORE your kitties to bits, no doubt at all … your kitties are lucky to have you and Rob in their lives
I might bring a zucchini to work tomorrow … the cafe that I work at, has a spiralizer … woot!
Posted by Lara (Thinspired) on July 16, 2009 at 1:14 am
I got a body brush a few days ago and I am loving it!
Rob sounds a little like my husband. If there’s fruit in the house, he’ll take that to work. But if there’s gross leftover cold pizza, he’ll take that too. Not very discerning, are they?!
No words for the edible peni (is that the plural form of penis? LOL) or the toliet shot!

Posted by Erin on July 16, 2009 at 3:42 am
Kersten – that’s the only way I do business.
buffmuffy – the fun pot! I love it
Gillian – it’s kind of like carrots actually…not as sweet though! Very fibrous, feels like a broom in my tummy (in a good way)!

LOL you are too damn funny lady!
I burst out laughing when I saw the pot picture!
Hey (if you dont mind) how much was that spiralizer? I really want one, but I know Mike will birth a small child if I spend a lot of money on one. Just curious!
I’m glad you posted all that stuff about your babies declawing. I totally understand, and glad you talked about it (it’s not “defending yourself” because there is no reason to defend yourself on that!!) love all the pictures of them – too sweet!

You are hysterical!!!! And BRAVE, my friend!
I love your cats! My 3 are all declawed, too. When we got the first 2, they were fixed and declawed at the same time. Pepper, who was from the humane society, was fixed when we got him so I thought about letting him keep his nails, but he was hurting my other 2 boys….and wrecking my curtains….so we had him done, too. It is costly, though!

I totally understand about the de-clawing, we had do it to one of our cats to protect our other animals at the time. I’m sure you have more than made up for it over the years.

I work for a vet clinic and we declaw cats from time to time. If you want to get your cat declawed, then find a vet who uses laser. Laser surgery to declaw cats is the best invention ever. It minimizes bleeding and cuts healing time nearly in half.
I have seen only successful declaw cases, so I am not against it whatsoever. The younger the cat, the better… but that’s with any animal. Older animals don’t do as well as younger ones under anesthesia, but that’s just common sense.
And declawing is WAY better than clipping puppy tails!!! Hearing those 2 day old puppies scream as their tail is clipped is a lot more painful than watching a cat go under for declaw. But that’s just my opinion.
Posted by lilveggiepatch on July 16, 2009 at 7:59 am
Oh, those kitties are too cute. TOO CUTE, I tell ya! And yeah, de-clawing is the only way to go. Growing up my kitties had already gone under the knife, and then last year I got a new kitten who wasn’t, and I’ll show you all the new scars I have when we meet.
Have a great time in P-LAND!

Hahaha Omg Erin I love you! You are amazing for posting a picture of you on the potty! lol.
Love all your new goods.. I want a spiralizer! How much did that one cost you?
Posted by Paula on July 16, 2009 at 8:23 am
Awww, man. Now I feel bad. I was one who mentioned not declawing any of MY future cats. All of my current cats are declawed, so I’m not one to judge. I’ve just changed my mind about the procedure since then (unlike you, I really didn’t look into any alternatives before). I’m sorry if anything I said was taken to imply that you and Rob don’t LURVE your kitties and give them a great life. I know you do.
Love the picture tribute! They’re precious.
You on the potty? LOL!

No really, I hope this becomes the new blogging rage like the Green Monster or Banana Soft Serve.
Anyway, isn’t your favorite thing about kitties the way that they put their little paws under their fronts and close their eyes. I have such kitty love.

That last photo is why you are my most favorite person. I loved reading the comments, too! I agree with Hangry Heather- this should be a trend!!
My Kitty was declawed when we adopted her, but my Jack is full-on claw monster. We won’t declaw him- but we also don’t have a reason to. I no judge!!
Posted by Stephanie on July 16, 2009 at 11:29 am
You crack me up! I loved your post…. there’s not many people that can look adorable in a photo of themselves on a toilet…. but you managed to pull it off…. ha!
….and I remember having your little naughty cakes at Megan’s bachelorette party…. they’re were REALLY yummy!!!
lol!
Posted by Alison on July 16, 2009 at 12:15 pm
My cat is declawed. She was already declawed when I adopted her. But one of my good friends is a vet. He is a huge cat lover and is not opposed to declawing. He says there are humane ways to do it. So no worries. My friend the vet is named, if you can believe it, Dr. Doolittle – his actually last name!
Posted by Sarah on July 16, 2009 at 12:58 pm
Declawing your cats is an entirely personal decision, and if you guys really thought it was best for the whole family, then you made the right choice. Our cats are declawed, too. At first I felt really bad for them, but my fam is a lot happier with them, and they are content, too.
What the heck is that picture with Rob with his pillow on his face, hands down his pants, surrounded by the kitties?? Way weirder than the potty pic.

Paula – Oh please don’t feel bad! I love you!
Brittany – Body brush came from therawfoodworld.com, but I’ve seen them at health food stores and on amazon.com, too!
Whitney – Hahaha, I was definitely reading…it was a piece of mail, too…nerd alert!
Sarah – Rob has no shame.
He loves to sleep with his hands in his pants, what can I say.
Sweet and Fit – e-mailing you with resources right now

best post.ever. loooooooooove all your kitty pics!!! I’m so happy mine don’t get on the stove or near the dish rack – that would drive me crazy!
Hubby and I are close to our wits end with ours scratching the carpet (not too bad, but we rent and we don’t like scratching) – they also scratch the couches too – grrrrrrr! nothing deters them! they are like 3 years old now.
How expensive is declawing? We have 2 cats..I’m thinking too expensive for us at the moment! My first cat was declawed when I was in 8th grade – the only way my parents would bring a cat into the house (after we lost our dog 2 years prior) was if it was declawed in front paws only.
Hubby and I may need to consider this if we end up purchasing our own because we have some nice(r) couches we’d like to bring into our new home and I’d prefer to not have it be a scratching post!
I love animals too, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do…
