Hey ya’ll!
You know what? YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!
I LOVED your responses to my last post! They were really diverse in content – grateful, self-disclosing, brief, long, etc.! I got most of them at work on my cell phone and some of them were SO funny. Turns out I’m not the only person who loves to talk about poo! I’m really glad my sharing was helpful for you all! Honestly, I mean this with 100% of me – you guys REALLY mean a lot to me and touch my heart. I hope I NEVER take my readers for granted. You are all amazing. Thanks for being a part of my life and making me smile. It’s beautiful!
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE!
I decided to try a new recipe from Natalia’s book tonight. I’ve seen other bloggers make this and I was intrigued! It’s basically a raw blended soup with just a few ingredients, the two main ones being avocado and carrot juice.
Get it!!
I was excited to make this because Robbie was mowing the lawn in 100 degree heat, and I thought he’d like something cool.
Pre-blend Olga shot:
Post-blend: can you believe how creamy that is?! Nom!
I decided to incorporate the pulp from my carrot juice into a salad. I liked the idea because I like carrots and I love the color orange!
I mixed it in bowl with jicama, romaine, and broc. It was kind of a bad idea. I will NOT be doing that again. Pulp is really dry and doesn’t go down easily AT ALL. I need stuff that goes down my throat to be smooth, dude!
But anyways, look at this soup!
So creamy and good. Rob liked it too, until I mentioned that the texture was like baby food. That grossed him out much and he couldn’t finish. Oops!
Speaking of Rob, he is being so silly today.
He took a shower after mowing the lawn and then continued on with the grooming, this time on his face.
In Rob’s word, he has to “represent for the Texas fools” by wearing chops and a handlebar mustache at our BBQ tomorrow.
This is the man I married ya’ll!
Can you see why, though? If I was with someone who took himself so seriously that he couldn’t, or wouldn’t, wear a truly heinous facial hair style in order to theme out for the 4th of July, then my life would be so much less interesting.
I remember being 17, dumb and superficial, and having all these criteria for the guys I dated:
- athletic
- taller than me
- nice car
- good job or going to college for some degree that would make lots of money
- jock style
- no back hair
When I think about that now, I realize so many of those criteria were not just dumb and superficial, but they were a reflection of my own insecurity. I used to get my esteem needs met by dating someone that fit the prototype of a hot guy. The logic went something like this: if I’ve snagged some generic hottie, then people will find ME attractive and like ME, because some hot boy does.
How fucked up is that, honestly?!
Fortunately, I fell in love with a man who is 1/2” shorter than me and, like most men of Eastern European heritage, has may-juh back hair! I fell for him immediately and learned what would be the first of many lessons from Rob: to listen to how I feel, not to some arbitrary set of rules designed to help m project a certain image.
To be quite honest, Rob got swag. Some days he leaves the house looking kinda street, but most days he resembles the Persian men I went to college with – crazy, colorful, button-down shirts, jeans that show off a big package, big black Armani sunglasses, perfectly groomed beard, a huge Omega watch, and a may-juh dose of cologne.
It’s hot as hell!
Did this post just become a tribute to my man?
Guess so!
Gorgeous night honey babies

Amen, sister. I am glad you have such a worthy man. In fact, he reminds me of my man, down to shaving the facial pubes to theme out. After Robert Goulet died, we were invited to a “turtlenecks and pearls” party, so he shaved down to just a ’stache. Unfortunately, the pedophile resemblance was a little too much for either one of us, so it didn’t last, but it was wicked funny for a few minutes there!

Oh, and Rob ain’t too shabby either
Seriously though, that soup looks amazing. I love me some carrots, when they don’t taste bad and make me feel ill. Yum!

Meow. I cannot help but obsess over you and your awesome husband. I wish you guys would adopt me.
I always preferred personality to looks. Im glad you found your dream man who has it all!

Okay, as long as we lived in Texas, Chris NEVER had his facial hair like that! Too funny.

Thanks for the shout out to the pre-blend shot. You know how I do sista
Yes, back hair is pretty much a given if you’re Eastern European. I believe my brother works so hard on his abs so he can distract the ladies from the bear-like physique of his back. It’s all good though.
I couldn’t imagine you being with someone NOT fun! I hope you have an awesomely patriotic weekend <33333

Chris and I LOVE this post. We can totally relate. Especially to the back hair issue.
Thanks for the chats tonight. Chris and I talked for like an hour after that too. It was awesome, you got it started. Now my mouth is tired. TWSS.

Rob is a hottie, but you know that. So, when I was a youngin’ (well, I still sort of am), I had the same “rules” for a dude I dated. Mine were pretty similar to yours, but replace “good job” with “ANY JOB” and now I am in love with my boyfriend who is 1″ taller than me (no heels for me! I feel weird if I do), super duper hairy and uh, well, he’s unemployed right now but that’s just because he finished grad school. Hey, we love who we love!
Oh, and I think your baby food looks and sounds delicious

I loved your last post about your raw diet and how it’s affected different areas of your life and body differently. SO interesting and SO good to read!
But you know what?
I think I loved this post even MORE. Your hub love is completely ADORABLE. I love how you talk about him. And the hot guy message… girl you are beyond wise.
HEART YOU.

I’ve got mad love for you too Miss Sass!
I adore the manscaping shots – love the tribute to your main squeeze!
Posted by Alison on July 4, 2009 at 7:36 am
Your boy is super-handsome. I had similar criteria for boys when I was younger. But there’s a difference btw the guys you ogle at and the guys you marry.
The carrot soup looks fabulous. Unfortunately, I got sick once after eating carrot soup and haven’t been able to tolerate it since. I love the vivid colors though.

Haha I think we all did the same thing in regards to high school dating. Glad you ended up finding one of the good ones!
Happy 4th!!
Posted by Jenny on July 4, 2009 at 8:30 am
you and the hubs are legit adorable! and i completely relate — i used to be so superficial when it came to relationships.. if a guy wasn’t tall dark and handsome i wouldn’t give him a second look…i also think this stemmed from my insecurity — i identified myself and prided myself on having the “hot boyfriend” that other girls were jealous of.. LAME! but look at me now .. i’m in love with a pale freckle-faced ginger and couldn’t be happier
Posted by Dottie on July 4, 2009 at 10:09 am
What a great post about what truly matters. Life is too short to be with someone boring!!! You have yourself some nice eye-candy, lady!!!
Posted by Emily on July 4, 2009 at 10:39 am
What a sweet post! I was always attracted to the dark, muscular types, but now I’m married to a tall, thin blonde! Who’s totes hot, and quite adept at the manscaping, as well
The soup looks so pretty and smooth! Too bad the pulp salad didn’t work out. It does LOOK kinda good.

I love you, does that count as part of the Lovefest?
Posted by Rebeca on July 4, 2009 at 1:34 pm
I think he’s pretty hot too… no single brothers? LOL
Seriously though, I used to have a list too- tall, athletic, tall, goodjob, tall, great car, did I mention tall? Now my list is more like- makes me laugh, loves to have long conversations, wants to argue with me about the issues, can handle my intelligence, and tall (but I’m 5′2” so it’s not that hard to be tall around me
).
We love our Erin too!
Posted by emily on July 4, 2009 at 2:46 pm
Haha, I love the man tribute! His 4th of July Texas hairstyle is a pretty genius idea too!

Posted by Jessica (jesslikesithot) on July 6, 2009 at 10:39 am
Look at that soup! It TOTALLY looks like baby food, but I dig it!
And the story about your mannn is so adorable! It just proves that you can’t have a “plan” for who you’re gonna marry or where you’re gonna be later in life! Ohhh Erin, I just wish I could meet the HANDSOME couple in person!
Posted by ttfn300 on July 7, 2009 at 4:46 am

I just bought the book two days ago (totally inspired by you, Sarah, and Gena!). is that the Elixer recipe in the essentials section? I couldn’t figure out if it was a soup or a salad dressing! Hehe. Looks good and pretty easy?
Posted by Erin on July 9, 2009 at 4:48 pm
Lara – Yes, it’s SO easy! Which book did you buy? I have two…not sure which one this came from but I’ll find it for you!
